1912 - Competing Visions America __ "The 1912 presidential election was a significant and substantive discussion about the future of the United States. The four major presidential nominees offered choices unimagined in today's political world. They fought in a more contentious, combative, and violent political culture than today's voters could tolerate. These pages are about those events, and the vision for the future of democracy that they represented." The big question was whether the US should become a socialist nation? - illustrated - From Ohio State University - http://1912.history.ohio-state.edu/

Why Don't Americans Vote? __ "For more than a quarter century participation in
American elections has declined. In 1988, just 50 percent of potential voters
bothered to cast votes in a Presidential election--the lowest voter
participation rate since 1824. As a result, the United States has by far the
lowest voter turnout of any western society." Perhaps you can find the answer

Wright Brothers Build Powered Flying Machine __ "Wilbur and Orville Wright first
became interested in flying machines when they were 11 and 7 years old, in 1878.
Our father came into the house one evening with some object partly concealed in
his hands, they later remembered, and before we could see what it was, he
tossed it into the air. Instead of falling to the floor, as we expected, it flew
across the room till it struck the ceiling, where it fluttered awhile, and
finally sank to the floor. It was a little toy.... a light frame of cork and
bamboo, covered with paper [and driven] by rubber bands under torsion. A toy so
delicate lasted only a short time in the hands of small boys, but its memory was
abiding. It is amazing just what that memory led to. You will find first hand
accounts from the Wright brothers as well as other historic material. - From oldnewspublishing.com -
